Fruits in Slovenia - Redhaven Peach

Peach Tree (Prunus persica L.)
The peach tree occupies an important place in Slovenia's fruit production.
The peach tree blossoms are medium to large in size, red or rosy in colour. The peach is self-fertile tree. Most peach blossoms are pollinated by bees.
Green peach aphids (Myzus persicae) are 2 mm long and olive or yellowish-green in colour. The aphids overwinter during the egg stage. The females lay shiny black eggs around peach buds. Young aphids emerge at the end of February or in the beginning of March and can cause serious damage to the developing buds. At the end of May winged adults appear and the aphids leave the peach to migrate to other crops and weeds. In the autumn they return to peach trees to lay eggs.
Redhaven is Slovenia's most widely planted peach. It is very cold-hardy and bears heavy crops. The fruit is medium in size with yellowish red colour and nearly fuzzless. The flesh is very juicy, sweet to subacid in flavour, yellow in colour and rather aromatic. It is freestone and ripens in late July.
