Minerals - Fluorite B

The mineral fluorite is calcium fluoride, CaF2. The origin of the word fluorite comes from the Latin word fluo (I run) because it is used as a flux in steel and aluminium processing. Fluorite crystals are prized by collectors for their rich variety of colours from violet, green, greenblue, yellow, brown, rosy, purple red, blue, white to black. The stamps depict a sample found in the village of Potok above the Selška dolina valley. Apart from violet fluorite, green and colourless varieties were also found.
The stamps depicting fluorite are our first stereoscopic stamps. The fluorite observation points are more than 9 degrees apart giving 3D vision of the crystal on the stamps.

Uroš Herlec
