Slovenian Scouts

SLOVENIAN SCOUTS
Future is now !
To be a boy or a girl scout means to help your nearest and enrich spiritual values, to livewith nature, get to know her and learn from her. That was thereal beginning of scouts. Englishman Robert Baden Powell (1857- 1941), B.P. called by scouts, was working as soldier in Indiaand Africa where he showed great courage and skills in footpathsand viewing. He wrote down his experiences in the book "Scoutingfor boys" that soon became popular among boys. B.P. realisedhis wish about a camp in July 15, 1907 when he gathered 22 boysfrom different social backgrounds and spent 25 days with themon the island Brownsea in the Channel. This was the very firstscout camp and is considered as the foundation day of Scout Association.
The World Scout Association, whose status enables the membership of only one organisation fromeach country, accepted Slovenian Scout Association (ZTS). SlovenianCatholic Scout Association (ZSKSS) also became the member ofWSA, after signing a special agreement with ZTS. The ZKSand ZSKSS members weretemporarily recognised in September 15, 1994. They will probablybecome the full members of WOSM (World Organisation of ScoutsMovement) in 1996 on the world conference in Oslo (Norway).
This year Slovenia will participate for the first time on world scouts meeting (jamboree)that takes part every four years. The 18th world jamboree willbe organised in Dronten in the Netherlands from 1st to 11th August1995, under the title "Future is now!"
The world scouts movements expands to 137 countries and includes 25 million boy and girlscouts.
Following the basic definition, the scouts organisation is a voluntary, youth, educational andnon-political association, open to everybody non regarding the race, nationality, religion or conviction.
As regards the status of World Scouts Organisation the scout principle is based on followingprinciples and laws: scouts help the nearests, they are friendsto all and brothers and sisters among them, they are faithfulto God and country, they are reliable, generous, friendly to animals, they obey their parents and superiors without objections, theylaugh and whistle despite problems, they thoroughly perform theirduties and they are clear in thoughts, words and deeds.
Nevenka Gogala
